Thanks to ‘Match Made in Tameside’ an event organised by Tameside Council’s Employment and Skills Team and Tameside4Good, a LOCAL charity and well known borough business have teamed up to raise awareness.

Building merchants Benchmark Building Supplies Ltd. and testicular cancer awareness charity, BaggyTrousersUK were introduced at the event held at Brother UK, Audenshaw in May 2015.

The aim of the event was to provide an icebreaker opportunity for local businesses and charities in a speed networking environment. Each Charity had a few minutes with each local business to discuss how they could work together and explore different ways of supporting one another in reaching their objectives. This isn’t just about local businesses simply making donations, but focuses on a variety of ways the companies can support their partner charity and hopefully have a lasting, sustainable impact.

Benchmark’s match with BaggyTrousersUK is already taking shape; they have added the charities branding to their e-mail footers, website and had the logo printed on every tonne bag of sand/stone.  Benchmark, who sell approximately 30,000 bags of sand/stone a year have also pledged to donate 50p from every sale to BaggyTrousersUK worthy cause. This will undoubtedly promote the charity and raise awareness of testicular cancer among men (a large proportion of Benchmark’s customer base) and far beyond the boundaries of Tameside.

Phill Brown, MD of Benchmark Building Supplies Ltd. said: “We have always been involved in community activities; however Match Made in Tameside provided a unique opportunity for us to meet BaggyTrousersUK and support a cause that really resonates with me and my workforce.  This is a great way to raise awareness and bring business and community together.”

This is truly a Match Made in Tameside!  As a result of this relationship, Phill Brown, MD of Benchmark Building Supplies Ltd. has reached out to Banter Media, another local business.  They have now joined forces with BaggyTrousersUK to promote the cause by offering their skills and expertise in website design and digital marketing.

Jack Broadley, Founder and Chairman of BaggyTrousersUK added: The pledge exceeded our expectations and then some.  We attended the event with an open-mind and to receive the support and guidance we have from Phill at Benchmark is more than we could ask for. It has benefitted in the sense that we have a fantastic interactive awareness website, a relationship with a Tameside based digital agency and exposure we could never imagine. Banter Media have also been fantastic in giving pro-bono of time and expertise.”

The May event was so successful, Tameside Council’s Employment and Skills Team and Tameside4Good plan to run another event on Friday 20th November 2015 at The Church Centre, Vicarage Drive, Dukinfield, SK16 5HZ.  Tameside College are also sponsoring the event by providing breakfast to attendees prepared by our very own Tameside Catering Apprentices; the format of the event will be the same and we hope to make many more great matches.
