Cookie Policy

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember information about your visit, making it easier for you to use the site again. Some cookies are essential for the site to function, while others are used to enhance your experience or support third-party services.
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies (such as localStorage) the Baggy Trousers UK website uses, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences.
How we use cookies
We group cookies using the same categories as our cookie banner. Necessary cookies are always on. Everything else is off until you accept it, and you can change your mind at any time.
Necessary cookies
These are needed for the site to work, to keep our forms free of spam, and to let you donate securely, so they cannot be switched off. Our donation platform, Fundraise Up, loads on every page so the Donate button works wherever you are. It and its payment providers, Stripe and PayPal, use these cookies to run the donation form, process donations and prevent fraud.
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| cookieyes-consent | Set by CookieYes, our consent tool, to remember your cookie choices so we don't ask again | 1 year |
| _GRECAPTCHA, rc::a, rc::c | Set by Google reCAPTCHA to tell real people apart from spam bots on our contact, volunteer and awareness talk forms | 6 months / until cleared / when you close your browser |
| fundraiseup_cid | Set by Fundraise Up to run the donation widget and spot fraudulent donations | 13 months |
| fundraiseup_session | Set by Fundraise Up to keep your donation together while you complete the form | When you close your browser |
| fundraiseup_func | Set by Fundraise Up to remember small choices during your visit, such as closing a donation pop-up | When you close your browser |
| fundraiseup_stat | Set by Fundraise Up to record errors and load times in the donation form so problems can be fixed | When you close your browser |
| __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Set by Stripe, which processes card donations, to prevent fraud | 1 year / 30 minutes |
| __paypal_storage__ | Stored by PayPal (localStorage) to support PayPal donations | Until cleared |
| chunk-reload:* | Stored by our site (sessionStorage) so the page reloads only once if we publish an update while you are browsing | When you close the tab |
Functional cookies
If you accept functional cookies, we use browser localStorage (not a traditional cookie) to save your chat with Paulie & Waulie so it is still there when you come back. If you don't, your chat is only kept until you close or reload the page.
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| btuk_chat_messages | Saves your chat history with our chatbot between visits | Until cleared |
Analytics cookies
Google Analytics helps us understand how visitors find and use the site (such as which pages are most popular) so we can improve it. It is only loaded if you accept analytics cookies. If you do, and you make a donation, we also record that a donation was made. We do not use Google Analytics to show you adverts. Google's privacy policy →
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Set by Google Analytics to tell visitors apart | 13 months |
| _ga_<ID> | Set by Google Analytics to remember the state of your visit | 13 months |
Advertisement cookies
We advertise on Google to help people find our support and information. If you accept both analytics and advertisement cookies, Google sets a cookie that lets us see whether a visit or donation came from one of our Google adverts, so we can spend our charity budget wisely. We do not use it to show you personalised adverts. If you decline advertisement cookies, this cookie is not set.
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Set by Google Ads to measure whether visits and donations came from our adverts | 3 months |
Videos
Some blog posts and survivor stories include videos from YouTube or Vimeo. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and Vimeo's "do not track" setting, so no cookies are set just by viewing the page. If you play a YouTube video, YouTube may store information on your device. YouTube (Google) privacy policy → Vimeo privacy policy →
Managing your cookie preferences
You can update your cookie preferences at any time using the button below. You can also clear all stored data through your browser settings — most browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies via their privacy or settings menu.
Declining functional cookies means your chat history with Paulie & Waulie is not saved between visits. Necessary cookies can only be blocked in your browser settings, and if you block them our forms and donation widget may not work.
